When you have chronic pain, it often seems as if your pain is in control of our life. Worse yet, these days, it can be almost impossible to find a good pain doctor. Most doctors are afraid to prescribe adequate amounts of pain medication -- even to legitimate patients -- for fear that they will either be investigated by the authorities, or turn their patients into addicts.
Furthermore, many of the doctors who do prescribe adequate amounts of pain medication either do so indiscriminately, often leading to their being closed down by the DEA, or alternatively, only do so when their patients consent to epidural steroid injections. Given that we know of no controlled studies showing that epidural steroids are effective, we don't believe in their use.
Rather, Dr. VanDercar, M.D., Ph.D., believes that the most effective way to control intractable pain is by using a combination of opiates -- such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, or oral morphine -- and other medications such as muscle relaxants, neuropathic agents, etc. Dr. VanDercar attempts to provide qualified pain patients with enough medication to bring their pain down to an acceptable level, while still allowing them to function normally.
Today was my only my second visit to Tampa Pain Clinic (TPC) however I was greeted with warm concerned smiles and a VERY caring doctor who TRULY believes in me! He not only worked with me in adjusting my medications he also really listened to what I had to say without judging me...
